Dr see's pt in office for screening colonoscopy, V76.51 or V76.49, dr spends about 15 minutes with pt and then we go in and spend another 10 explaining prep to them and signing consent. Now Medicare wants you not to be paid for that office visit?? Is there a special code to use or dx code, How do I get that office visit paid? Shirley

Laureen explained the research she did to figure this one out int the August 2012 Medical Coding Certification Q & A Webinar. She utilized several resources including the AAPC forum and a Preventative Services Chart on cms.gov and also Find-A-Code. You can listen to the full answer by going to the Replay of the webinar. Info on the Replay club is available at https://www.cco.us/club/. The short answer to the question that Laureen determined through her research is that for a colonoscopy screening, the office visit to discuss the procedure and the prep is bundled into the procedure.
